About the HACKX – Voice Hackathon

Smart Speakers are the latest and fast-growing trend in German living rooms. Let us hack them together – how will we consume news in 2025?

In teams with other participants you will program apps for Voice Assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant. We are aiming at creating innovations for news consumption in 2025 – and are confident the access to information via voice will play an essential role.

Two Days – One Goal

In the premises of the HANDELSBLATT MEDIA GROUP in Düsseldorf you will have the chance to conceptualize, design, code and eventually pitch your application from April 27th to 28th 2018. The winner will receive 2.000 EUR prize money per category.

No limits – for your idea you can either use a prepared news API or use other services or combine everything.

During the hacking mentors will give assistance with the implementation of your ideas. On the second day a jury will evaluate your application.

For a well prepared start into the hack there will be different VUI and voice development related talks.

Voice User Interface Design Introduction

Tim Kahle, 169 Labs

Tim Kahle is co-founder of 169 Labs and responsible for the voice user interface design at 169 Labs. He will give an overview of the design principles for digital voice assistants and present various best practices.

Alexa Skill Development Introduction

Dominik Meissner, 169 Labs

Dominik Meissner is co-founder of 169 Labs GmbH und responsible for the implementation of voice applications at 169 Labs. He will give a brief introduction into skill development and present a sample project, which you will be allowed to use during the hacking phase.

Jury

At the end of the hackathon you will have to convince the Jury with your product/idea.
